Since 1976, we have introduced thousands to the joys of whitewater.

We love boating, wild places, adventuring on and around rivers, and the friendships and camaraderie that are formed on boating trips and around a campfire!

What is the BWA?

The Bluegrass Wildwater Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, dedicated to promoting the safe enjoyment, access, and conservation of wilderness waterways for human-powered watercraft.

Who are we?

The wildest thing on the river since 1976!

We’re a community of fun-loving individuals who get together to paddle the whitewater streams and rivers of Kentucky and beyond. See our latest updates on social media!

We are a proud American Whitewater Affiliate Club!

American Whitewater (AW) is the national advocacy organization that lobbies to protect and restore America’s whitewater rivers and to enhance opportunities to enjoy them safely. Because of our affiliation, all BWA members receive a $10 discount on their AW membership!

The BWA donates to river advocacy groups large and small.

In addition to American Whitewater, the BWA has also supported numerous other water conservation organizations, including the Ecuadorian Rivers Institute, the Kentucky Waterways Alliance, and more!

Great member benefits!

Discounts at both local and national river outfitters, monthly educational and networking opportunities off the river, a parking pass for Elkhorn Creek, annual skills clinics, rolling sessions, film festivals, races, and plenty of paddling trips!

Community

Above all, we are a community. We love getting new folks into paddling, and converting them to the sport and social activity we are so passionate about. Interested in meeting us? Come to a monthly meeting (they’re free and open to the public)! Or chat with fellow paddlers in our Facebook group.
