Not-NPFF Race 2017 (Official)- The Jess Cup
READ ALL OF THIS AND BE EDUCATED!
Date: Saturday Feb 18th 2017
Location: Elkhorn Creek, Frankfort, KY: [www.americanwhitewater.org]…/River/detail/…/661/
Coincidentally, the National Paddling Film Festival will again be at Buffalo Trace Distillery, in Frankfort, KY, Feb 17th-18th.
THIS RACE IS FOR ALL TO PARTICIPATE!
This is for all paddlers with all types of craft, race boats, creek boats, play boats, canoes, SUPs, Shredder, raft, etc. It's a BIG PARTY with prizes, food, libations. Don't miss out!
All whitewater clubs / teams and individuals are encouraged to participate.
REGISTRATION:
Preregistration is open. THIS SAVES A BUNCH OF TIM ON RACEDAY SO PREREGISTER!!! Preregistration will be closed midnight Friday the 17th.
Here it us. I also just talked to Nathan. I'm adding a couple tidbits to my post about their bus and trucks for shuttle

[docs.google.com]

KNOW THE LENGTH OF YOUR BOAT:
At the starting line racers will line up by boat length. Shortest boat will be furthest downstream, longest boat will be furthest upstream. Boats below 10' length start with stern on the bank. Boats over 10' length start with bow on the bank. It's a MAYHEM MASS START!
MEETING TIME AND PLACE:
You could pre-drop your boat at the put-in and then proceed to AW Acres. Nobody is assigned to watch the boats at the put-in so leave it there at your own risk. Knock-on-wood there has never been a problem with doing this in the past. We will also have help shuttling bodies to the put-in from AW Acres by Canoe Kentucky.
Be at the take-out (AW Acres) by 11:15 a.m. for final registration. Racer’s meeting is at high-noon immediately followed by shuttle to the put-in.
VISIT CANOE KENTUCKY WHILE YOUR IN THE AREA, GIVE THEM A BIG THANKS FOR THEIR HELP. THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO PICK UP THAT GEAR YOU’VE BEEN NEEDING!
Don’t park at the put-in! There’s not enough room! Same goes for the finish line which is at Saufley's. We need to save that parking for the time keepers.
BRING A PRIZE!
Prizes for the winners are what YOU bring! Prizes will be awarded to the top guy, top lady, fastest "short boat" defined as any boat under 10 ft., top senior citizen (60 and over), top C-1, and the top competitor in whatever class you fools come up with (raft, shredder, OC-1, OC-2, hand paddles, playboat, SUP). I want to stress that the fastest lady AND the fastest "short boat" defined as any boat under 10 feet will get one of the major prizes donated. Please don't forget your own personal donation. The more prizes the better! Examples of good prizes are a bottle of KY distilled beverage, other fine brewskies, kayak gear, gift certificates to local outfitters, a single beer, a kiss on the mouth, etc.
This is a whitewater race and there are NO safety personnel. PADDLE AT YOUR OWN RISK! There will be a lot of people in mass confusion, especially at the start. Participants must know what they’re getting into here. There is a slightly tricky portage at a terminal dam to reach the starting line. If somebody gets in trouble, forget about the fictional gold medal and help them. Bring your throw rope. Safety First!!!

This is from Jim GunnThe head Man in charge.

Thank you,

Fred

Just swinging by to give another shout out to Canoe Kentucky! Like Fred already mentioned above, please swing by and give them some love when you can.

They are providing a shuttle service for the racers again this year, as well as coffee and danishes. Thanks so much to Canoe Kentucky for supporting the race and the film festival every year (despite the two being completely unrelated)!!!!

And thanks Fred for spearheading the BWA racing efforts this year! Y'all go out there and stomp some ass. And then make it to the festival..................... : )

love,
bethany (or beverly or whatever)

Nate and Nat were wondering if the pictures taken at the finish and the awards pile would be put here, or somewhere else. Great Race, again, guys and gals!

Consider the Missouri Whitewater Championships, the 3rd weekend in March. [missouriwhitewater.org]
