Just got an email about new digital topo maps available from USGS, of KY and TN.

http://www.usgs.gov/newsroom/article_pf.asp?ID=3590

I haven't looked at them yet, but they sound good. <edit> Just tried to look at them -- not so easy to find, and thumbnails not really ready yet on all of them. If you want to take the time to download on spec, you can probably do it.

Im sitting here before a run and an interesting question popped into my mind?

How much has preferred shuttle vehicles changed in 25 yrs or so?
The man who taught me so much and a vet boater of 20+yrs
Has this old chevy suburban he used yrs ago still sitting at his house.
One of his comments to me was when ya start makin trips, if you have a grill and can cook and a vehicle that will haul alot of boats you,ll make friends quick lol.
So my question i guess was did boaters transition from the 25'long gas guzzlers to todays more efficient fuel zoom zooms. Just an interesting question from a newer boater.Even fun to think about perhaps.

Just a heads up, my car was broken into at the Ledges put-in yesterday.
Smashed window, grabbed my i-pod and a canvas bag of clothes, went through
the glove compartment. Obviously very hurried because a lot of stuff was
left that was visible from just looking in the window.

Really nothing you can do about it other than keep anything of value out of
sight, hope for the best and keep your eyes open for sketchy characters.
Driving into work this morning was "refreshing".

SYOTR,

Thought I should come over here to this area to post this. I have been watching the events in Boston and see that they got the terrorist and got the som-bitch alive. That is a good thing. I do, however, hope that any wound this bastard has received hurts and hurts a lot. With all the pain and agony this cockroach (I prefer a different term) has inflicted on others, my hope is the pain he is experiencing is only just a start. I do pray that he got at least a 9mm to the nuts to start with.

In the early Fall of 1980 I was stationed in Nuremberg, Germany. One weekend three of us decided to go to the Octoberfest in Munich. What a day it was. It was beyond great. The music was cheezy and the beer was beyond fabulous. We partied like never before with the Nazi's and enjoyed every second of it. It was time for us to get back on the bus to Nuremberg. We were several yards away from the gate when suddenly the world seemed to come to an end.

A bright light blinded me and immediately following was a shock wave that punished every cell in my body. There was nothing in me that was not hit. Ever have you soul get a shit kickin? The next thing I know I am prostrate on the ground, my vision blurred, and the only thing I could hear was the loud ringing in my ears I saw that my shirt and my arms were splattered with blood and others around me looked the same. It took a little time to gather my wits and regain some sense though sometimes I wish that had been delayed. About two yards from me was an arm. That was all there was, just an arm. No matter what I do or how hard I try I cannot get that arm out of my memory. After almost 33 years I still dream of that ring on that hand. It won't go away.

I was witness to the terrorist attack on the Munich Octoberfest that long ago night in Germany. It is something that I cannot erase and still deal with after all these years. Being an Army medic attached to a tanker brigade, I did participate in triage and treatment of civilian wounded. For the time being I kicked into automatic mode. I didn't understand a word of what people were saying but somehow we all worked as a team to preserve life as well as we could at that time. Of that, I am indeed proud. But I was a United States Army Medic, where was the war?

What I can't get rid of is being witness to the event that killed and wounded innocent people, just like in Boston. The guy who blew himself up in Munich was indeed successful. He fucked up part of my life forever. I just hope that when he placed his bomb in the can there at the gate, his last thought as it prematurely went off was that he had really frigged up. I'm glad he died, damn glad. You have no idea of how glad I am that he is dead. There is no forgiveness in me for this asshole. None. And if you were not there, don't judge me. You didn't have to see that arm. Too bad he couldn't die twice. To this day I wish I could cut his throat and prevent what happened that night.

I have no pity for these two bastards in Boston. I hope the first asshole was aware that his own brother ran his ass over with the car in order to get his own cowardly hide outta there. I understand brother number one had on a suicide vest. Hells to the yeah that it didn't go off and this piece of shit will never get the opportunity to take it back even if he kept the receipt. You have no idea how much I hope brother number 2 suffered greatly while spending the day like a friggin flea infested rat holed up hungry and thirsty and bleeding in some stranger's boat. I hope every beat of his worthless cold heart is painful and every breath he takes causes him grief. It makes me feel good knowing that his being 19 and pretty will work against him in prison. (_o_) of day of admission. (_O_) one week later.

You know, I really don't give a shit about what motivates assholes like this to do what they do. They are terrorists. They don't care about their victims. I can't say that I don't care about them though. Take this surviving coward: I do hope his worthless carcass gets the best of medical care. I hope he has protection on the level of the president. I want all this because I want to see our guys gleen any information they can out of him and then kill him with as much prejudice as we can muster.

This event has been posted to Facebook on the Russell Fork Boaters group page.
I know some of you are not on FB and would be interested in an event that is geared toward helping out
the Elkhorn City Heritage Council.
Super Moon Festival

There are a few tickets left at a reduced price. There is no difference in the packages other than the price - per Tim Blecher
It's a great way to support Elkhorn City and the EC Community Garden all while taking in some great music, some river time, and some
social time with our beloved EC friends and phams!

I've bought my tickets - You should go to the website and buy yours too!!

Benchmark is having an Outdoor Expo Saturday March 23rd from noon-4, and has asked me to head up a group to represent the BWA. Here's the low-down: "We will provide a table for you all so all you need to bring are your fun selves and any info you'd like to share with customers. We are asking people to get there to set up between 11 and 11:30. I think it'd be nice to have some pictures of some trips you all have taken, especially runs down local streams. Just a thought and a way to engage them in conversation. ;-)"

It should be fun, I've done the Ladies Night there for several years and have always had a great time. It would be awesome if someone could volunteer to put together something to showcase the BWA (any media you want, but there won't be giant amounts of space) and I need volunteers to man our table from noon-4:00 If interested, please post here. I have attached their flyer about the event.

Thank you in advance! C6

It is with sadness, that I must report on the death of another of our TRR boaters, Scott Reed. Many of you met him on the weekly flatwater paddles and on the whitewater trips to the Pigeon and Nanty. He always had a great smile and was a lot of fun, but in the end, he could not escape the demons in his head from Iraq. His fiance takes great comfort in the fun he had with TRR and paddling. She came with him to the last Nanty paddle. May he rest in peace.
