Weather Forecast:

Temp: High of 84 degrees and mostly sunny
Precip: 10%

With pretty warm temps and low water conditions, everyone should assess what clothing to wear. Bring plenty of water and food for lunch. Also, Barry has a good idea about the twine. I plan on bringing some myself to help tie on trash.

Just my .02

If you're going to paddling an aggressive boat like the Burn it'd be better to be in the one a little bigger rather than smaller. Volume isn't everything. It's more of how that volume is distributed (think Dagger RPM-60gal vs Jackson Super Star-64.5gal). So volume is really just a number you shouldn't really get too focused upon. It is importnant but shouldn;t be a deciding factor.

The older Burns especially have a pretty hard edge on them. The lower you are floating in the water in one of them the more likely you are to get tripped up on those edges. Don't forget that you're going to have a bunch of wet geat on as well. That adds weight most people don't consider.

The Burn is an awesome boat for the awesomely aggressive paddler.

Also....I didn't cross check your specs but be sure you're looking at the sizing for the Burn model prior to the 2010. The specs you are looking at may be for the newer Burn...which definitely has more volume than a Burn produced 2006-2009.

Not sure if my head is in the game for the Green but who knows...forgot about the Pigeon. Been a few years. That could be a nice low key sunday too.
Thanks Bethany. Since they have cut the dam back on the Pound and are still over summer pool, I am hoping against hope that they will release us something tomorrow to get the flows in the RFG in the 4-500 range, at least. Anyway, I am probably not going to go to the Red cleanup this year. I know it is a rewarding experience and I am grateful to those of you that are going to do this.
Brandon,

I am fairly certain I will be on the Cheoah on Saturday of Memorial day, unless there is natural flow somewhere (ie Chattooga over 1.7, Watauga over 250, etc.). Don't forget the Pigeon releases that weekend too. I bet the Green will run. We love boaters to come camp with us down there. Where ever you end up boating.

Directions and Meet Time for Red River Clean-up

Here are the directions for the Red River clean-up. The plan is to meet at the takeout at 8 a.m. and then drive as few vehicles as possible to the put-in at Russ Millers house. I have included directions to both locations. If, for some reason you are late getting to the takeout than just meet us at Russ Millers house.

Directions to the takeout from Bert T Combs (Mountain Parkway) East bound:

1. Take exit 40 for KY-15/ KY-715 toward Beattyville. Follow for 0.3 miles.

2. Turn right onto KY-15/ KY-715 North, follow for 0.7 miles.

3. Take the 1st right onto KY-715 N/Sky Bridge Rd, follow for 4.9 miles.

4. Turn right to stay on KY-715 N/Sky Bridge Rd, follow for 1.3 miles.

5. Destination will be on the left.

Directions to Russ Millers

1. Take the Mountain Parkway east to the Campton Hazard exit and go to the stop light at the bottom of the hill

2. Turn left at the light onto hwy 191 and zigzag through town, at about 1.5 miles from the light the road forks, take the left fork onto hwy 746.

3. Stay on hwy 746 for about 2.5 miles (do not turn left at about 1.5 miles at the concrete block building on to Calaboose Ridge road). After you pass a large white house on the left you turn left on to Calaboose Rocky Branch Road. About 50 yards down the road you will see Byrd Cemetery on your right to let you know you are on the right road.

4. Stay on this road for 1.5 miles when it will fork just before crossing a small concrete bridge. Take the right fork named Big Calaboose Creek Road, go .6 miles to where there will be two closed gates on the left side, go through the single gate (as opposed to the double gate) and stay on the gravel road which goes through the woods and then through another gate. Stay on the main road, go past an abandoned house trailer and go about another 400 yards and you will be at the end of the road and at our house.
