For 30 years the National Paddling Film Festival has been hosting a competition to determine the best in paddle sport videos and images. This competition has provided the paddling community with a fun and profitable event to support American Whitewater and river conservation. In that time, the NPFF has also helped to raise the quality of paddle sport entertainment by providing recognition of talent along with important and useful feedback for the artists who make the show a possibility.

Entries for still images are being accepted for the 2012 NPFF through January 27th. Film submissions are no longer being accepted.

A block of rooms is available at the Hampton Inn for $89/night - free breakfast and wi-fi - mention NPFF.

Additional information about the event will be posted at www.npff.org and on our Facebook page regularly so check back often for all the latest updates.

2012 NPFF Guest Speaker

We are honored to have Steve Fisher as the Guest Speaker this year. Steve, his brother Dave, and the rest of Fish Munga films have won many previous NPFF awards including last year's Best Professional - General Boating and Best of Festival awards for "Halo Effect."

Growing up on a farm in rural Estcourt, South Africa close to the Bushman’s River, Steve started paddling when he only was six years old and by 21, his attraction to big waters had already taken hold when moved to Africa’s famed Zambezi River to kayak full time. It wouldn’t be long before he was “discovered” and brought to America where he’d continue to forge that path through dangerous waters.

The South African native made a big splash on the contest circuit when he turned pro in 1999, winning several freestyle contests, extreme races, and landing on the podium at major national and international comps. He also pioneered many new freestyle maneuvers, making his mark in the sport in more ways than one.

But the contest scene wasn’t enough for Fisher, who left the pro circuit behind in 2003 to seek more challenging waves and bigger waters. He’s been on a “go where no man has ever gone before” mission ever since, braving first descents no one thought possible. Outside magazine described his extraordinary athletic prowess and bravado as “fortitude—or depending on your view, a total lack of self preservation.” He’s been on that path ever since, traveling the world non-stop in search of towering waterfalls, big waves and first descents.
